Bill Truran: The Sparta Railroad Station
March 10, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
William Truran will be providing an illustrated lecture on the history of the Sparta Train Station located near Station Park.
Truran will offer the historical perspective on this site and elaborate on the January 6, 2016 Sparta Independent article on the station’s current reconstruction, after the 2012 fire.
The original 1881 Sparta station was built according to a standard design used in all of the New York Susquehanna & Western depots — one of 15 built in Sussex County by the railroad. It still features a very rare example of a surviving water tower.
